(align:"=><=")+(box:"X=")[Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint Introduction]
This page is an introduction to help other people understand the world of Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint.
The story is a webnovel written about an apocolyptic world in which the planet earth has been turned into a place where creatures called [[dokkaebi->Dokkaebi]] create stories that they stream to [[constellations->Constellations]] for entertainment.
In this universe, humans, called [[incarnations->Incarnations]] by the non-Earth entities, are the actors who are being messed with and watched for content.
An introduction to the actual [[story->Story]] can be found here, but the main point of this webpage is to help readers understand the powers at play that influence the world. This is a very basic summary of some of the important characters and ideas, but I recommend checking the actual story out if it seems interesting to you.
I highly recommend reading the story, and if you find this page interesting you can find the story adapted on WEBTOONS in the [[citation->Citations]] page.
If you want to read my own personal reasons for recommending the story check out [[this->Recommendation]] page.(align:"=><=")+(box:"X=")[Constellations]
Constellations are the observers of the streams by the [[dokkaebi->Dokkaebi]]. They are also typically "sponsors" of the [[incarnations->Incarnations]]. The characters in the world have the ability to choose from constellations that are interested in sponsoring them, entering into a contract with them. This contract gives some amount of control to the constellations in return for providing the incarnation with skills.
Constellations can be placed into different ranks based on where they originate from and how powerful they are. The ranks are as follows:
Historical grade: Famous historical figures, typically from eastern Asia, such as Maritime War God - Yi Sunsin.
Fable grade: Characters from various stories, typically from eastern Asia, such as Master of Steel - The Tin Woodman of Oz.
Myth grade: Characters from mythology such as Great Sage, Heaven's Equal - Sun Wukong or Father of the Rich Night - Hades.
Going from least to most powerful.
Constellations are former [[incarnations->Incarnations]] who by performing great feats have become legends. As can be seen from the examples, the constellations of this story come from things such as mythology or history. Constellations typically do not reveal their true selves, instead typically going under aliases that reflect who they are such as the names Maritime War God or Great Sage, Heaven's Equal.
Constellations can also gift coins to any incarnation regardless of if they are affiliated with them, typically given out for doing entertaining actions or for acting in ways that align with the beliefs of the constellation.
Outside of the [[dokkaebi->Dokkaebi]], the constellations are the entities with the most ability to influence the progression of the story and the lives of the people in it.(align:"=><=")+(box:"X")[Incarnations]
Incarnations in this story are the characters or humans of the story. Similar to many stories such as greek mythos, the [[constellations->Constellations]] are limited in how much they can directly interract with the world, and as such interract through the incarnations that they form contracts with.
Not all incarnations are sponsored by a constellation, either by choice such as in the case of Kim Dokja who uses the fact that he is not yet sponsored to gain the interest of other constellations, or by virtue of having no constellation willing to sponsor them. Typically for the latter case it is because the person is not strong enough that a constellation feels it worthwhile to sponsor them.
Incarnations have a variety of resources, including their attributes, skills, and stats. These increase in power throughout the story as they spend coins to increase the values or train to grow more competent at them. As mentioned in the [[constellations->Constellations]] page, constellations are a form of incarnation, meaning they also have access to the same set of abilities, though typically significantly more powerful.
Attributes are unique traits to incarnations that typically are linked with some kind of skill or power. For example: Bug collector - an attribute that grants the skill interspecies communication and allows the user to talk to insects and control them. These are typically very powerful and are usually linked to what the person did before the start of the story.
Skills are the core mechanic of how incarnations interract with the world. There are a variety of different types of skills, some being useful in combat while others are useful for gathering information. There is a specific type of skill called a stigma, which is a specific skill granted by a [[constellation->Constellations]]. These are typically much stronger than the normal skills and can only be gained through favor with that specific constellation.
Stats are just generic physical traits or abilities like strength, agility, or mana. These are levelled up using coins and are typically capped for every scenario making it so that incarnations won't become too strong for scenarios to be of any challenge to them. (align:"=><=")+(box:"X=")[Main Story]
The story follows Kim Dokja, a typical office worker who read the series Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse. One day, the world is thrown into chaos as the things he read about in that web series became real, and he uses his prior knowledge of what happened in the series to exploit the system and outsmart the [[dokkaebi->Dokkaebi]] who are running the games he is forced to take part in.
The other main characters are:
Yoo Joonghyuk - The main character of the series Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse, who has the unique ability that when he dies the world is reset to when he first encountered the world outside of Earth.
Han Sooyoung - An author of a plagarized version of Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse and the only other person who has read significant portions of the original series.
Yoo Sangah - One of Dokja's original coworkers and a companion throughout the series.
Lee Hyunsung - An army member who was part of Yoo Joonghyuk's team in the original series and part of Dokja's team in the real version.
Shin Yoosung - A powerful character who was part of Yoo Joonghyuk's original team, a boss-like enemy, and the first [[incarnation->Incarnations]] of Dokja.
Lee Jihye - A member of Yoo Joonghyuk's original team and a relative of one of the [[constellations->Constellations]].
Lee Sookyung - Dokja's mother and one of the few people who knows anything about the original series.
The story progresses through a series of main and sub scenarios, in which all participants are given an objective, rewards, a penalty for failure, and sometimes a constraint. These are challenges given to the [[incarnations->Incarnations]] by the [[dokkaebi->Dokkaebi]] to entertain the [[constellations->Constellations]].
We follow Dokja's progression as he develops his own skills exploiting his knowledge of the system to gain advantages such as forming a contract with a [[dokkaebi->Dokkaebi]], communicating with the constellations, or getting items and skills that accelerate his growth throughout the series. (align:"=><=")+(box:"X")[Dokkaebi]
The dokkaebi are effectively the storytellers of the world of Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. They are rrsponsible for creating the events and situations that the [[incarnations->Incarnations]] encounter in order to provide entertainment for the [[constellations->Constellations]].
Though dokkaebi's are responsible for creating everything about the world as presented, the most common ones we see are dokkaebi streamers, the one's who present the stories of incarnations to the constellations. Much like twitch streamers of the real world, they provide entertainment to the constellations and get money and influence based on the number of viewers they have. The specific ways in which they get money and power is outlined in contracts they form, but typically the way it works is they get a percentage of all coins that are gifted to incarnations for themselves.
Dokkaebi have their own internal heirarchies and that influences their ability to control and manipulate the storylines of any given situation in order to create what they believe will be the best content for their Star Stream, the streaming service they use.
The main dokkaebi of the [[story->Story]] is Bihyung. He is the streamer responsible for the channel that the protagonist and all of the main characters are in. Why you should read it:
I think that it is just a good story overall, but it does a couple of interesting things that made me like it specifcally. Obviously the core concept is a really cool idea. Having a character who goes through knowing the original story, and starting to see how someone's actions can drastically effect what happens at any point in time creates an interesting idea to think about and read.
Additionally, there are multiple modes of reading it depending on your preference, it is present both as the original web series but also as a WEBTOON which I think makes it much easier to read and get interested in as a new participant. As with most things, I think that the source material is usually better, but this one specifically I really liked the adapted version and the visualizations and medium that WEBTOON has makes it convenient to read and interesting.
I personally also really like stories that pull characters and ideas from mythology and history, as it both feels like I get to learn something new about real things outside of the world the story is present in and connects it to other things I have read or learned about before. In this space I really liked Rick Riordan and the original Percy Jackson series because it both connected to things I had learned about before and helped me learn new things to expand the knowledge I had on that subject.
I also just want to recommend this out of pure selfishness, I really enjoyed reading the story and want to have other people who will be able to talk with me about it and share in my appreciation for the story. Also, the more people that are interested in it the more the story and adaptations will grow and the more I will be able to read for myself.
But lastly, I think it makes an interesting commentary on the way that stories are told. Throughout the story, Dokja begins to realize both how he as a person was drastically different from the original protagonist despite idolizing him at a younger age, and how much is left out from the storytelling of the original. Being immersed in the story, despite knowing how certain decisions may play out he makes them regardless because he begins to understand the emotions and the feelings of the characters present. Additionally, he also begins to realize many of the parts of the world that the author didn't present and how painful it is to see the effects of catastrophes that were largely ignored by the original protagonist.
If this idea seems interesting to you, I highly recommend it and you can check out the WEBTOON at least in [[citations->Citations]].
